What is Achilles certification all about?

What is Achilles certification all about?

Achilles was founded in Norway in 1990 with the goal of helping organisations to identify, assess, qualify, and monitor suppliers throughout the supply chain with an aim of reducing operating costs. The primary concept of 'by the industry for the industry' meant that information collected could be shared with others with similar business interests in order to reinforce business ties and save time and money.

The service has since evolved to include a range of industries in over 23 countries across the world and has become synonymous with reliability, quality and trust. As supply chains become more globalised, buyers and suppliers need in depth risk assessment. Achilles no longer just focuses on cost reduction and supply chain mapping but offers various procurement risk management tools such as carbon footprint data, sustainability and CSR information. In short, it provides a wide ranging and detailed examination of compliance and improvement across all areas of a business, designed to provide assurance to large organisations when buying goods and services.

Harrow Green has been a certified member of Achilles for over 10 years. We were recently audited by them again and received our certificate in early March, receiving 100% in almost all of the categories. The audit assessed our performance in Health and Safety, Environment, Quality and Corporate Social Responsibility via a Management System Evaluation and an Onsite Assessment. On the first day of this two day process, the Achilles auditor looks for evidence that we have systems and work protocols in place for the categories under review; this is followed by a visit to a job site at a client’s premises on the second day of the audit, where they check that our systems are being implemented. This ensures that we’re as good as our word and make excellent practices a priority for our business.

The Achilles certification has particular relevance in the Facilities Management sector where companies increasingly outsource non vital activities; this makes the FM supply chain longer and more complicated. Being part of a transparent and certified assessment process enables us to offer our customers the assurance that our service delivery is beyond reproach and designed simply to benefit them. Being Achilles certified proves that we’re efficient, operate to very high standard and always aim to improve our overall performance.

We were happy but not surprised to know that we passed with flying colours, allowing us to once again prove our commitment to quality, transparency, efficiency and environmental performance. This displays to our customers that we hold Achilles’ values in high regard and strive to maintain the areas we excel at, while improving our performance, where there’s room, with every passing year.
