Restore Harrow Green meets Hollywood!

Our relationship with The John Rylands Library goes back many years and we couldn't think of a better setting for a few scenes in a new film on Sir Winston Churchill called Darkest Hour.

Harrow Green - printing press image The film focuses on Churchill’s tumultuous first few days as Prime Minister as the threat of Nazi invasion loomed over England and his own party conspired against him.

So when film makers Clop Films Ltd contacted us to move a historic printing press known as the Colombian Printing Press or Eagle Press so that filming could take place we jumped into action!  Although we only moved the press 20 yards and returned after filming to put it back in the same place it wasn’t as easy as it sounds.  The Columbian press dates back to the mid 1800’s and was designed to allow a whole newspaper page to be printed in a single pull, made of cast iron and weighing in at 1.5 tonnes, it required our expert knowledge to move it safely and carefully.  Our team used specialist handling equipment and relied upon our tried and tested methodologies of moving historical artefacts to ensure a perfect move.  We enjoyed our little taste of Hollywood!
