We're helping protect the rainforest!

We're helping protect the rainforest!

This month we’ll be receiving our Planet Mark Acre of Rainforest Certificate.

The certificate is awarded to Restore Harrow Green in recognition of our commitment to sustainable improvement through The Planet Mark by protecting an acre of the world’s most endangered rainforest. It is one of the many benefits that come with being Planet Mark-certified and is further proof of our commitment to reduce our social and environment impacts.

Why pledge an Acre of Rainforest?

Deforestation contributes up to 20% global CO2 emissions.

The Planet Mark is partnering with Cool Earth, the award-winning charity that works alongside indigenous villages to halt rainforest destruction to protect an Acre of Rainforest for every new Business Certificate we deliver.

Our acre goes directly towards supporting the Asháninka community in Central Peru, whose livelihoods depend on the Amazon rainforest remaining standing. The Asháninka is Peru’s largest indigenous nation. Their territory is at extreme risk from illegal logging and coca trafficking. Cool Earth is working with 16 villages to form a protective shield for the adjacent National Park, making millions of acres of neighbouring forest inaccessible to loggers.

What's the impact of protecting An Acre of Rainforest?

  • 240 trees protected
  • Thousands of species sheltered
  • 76,000 litres of water produced
  • 260 tonnes of CO2 stored

In addition, The Planet Mark also donates a proportion of revenue generated from every Business Certificate it delivers to our partner, the Eden Project, an educational charity that seeks to connect people with each other and the living world. For Planet Mark-certified businesses, a percentage of our certification fee contributes to the Eden Project to develop educational materials and workshops for school children and young people, as well as professional development training programmes.

The certificate will be presented to us in a few weeks, in an online ceremony so watch out for further updates.
